Marathon 2007:From Tighthead Prop to Racing Snake!
By RugbyBird January 15 2007
A Quinssa Member will be running his first London Marathon this year and transforming himself from former Tighthead Prop to Racing Snake!

Quinssa were kindly donated a place in this year’s Flora London Marathon by Quinssa member Steve Scott, Managing Director of Wilson & Scott (Highways) Ltd and there were 3 applications for this place.

Two of the applicants have already run the London Marathon in previous years (and were already exploring other avenues for this/next year) so the Quinssa committee decided to offer the place to the other applicant as it is a chance to provide a brand new experience to someone.

The other reason for the decision is that this applicant wants to run to raise money for the Shooting Star Children’s Hospice in addition to Future Hope and both of these charities are very dear to Quinssa.

The successful applicant is Andy Stewart who stated amongst his reasons for applying that “it has something to do with the fact that in 2007 I will be 40 and want and need to do something that I can look back on and not only be proud of myself but to have my friends and family be proud of me too, and taking part in the London Marathon would be such a massive achievement.”

Andy knows this won’t be a simple run in the park - especially for a man of his age and stature - it is a major commitment both in terms of physical training and also time.

His promise – to himself as well as others – is that he will cross that finish line even if he is walking or crawling by then!

We will be keeping you updated with Andy’s progress as he transforms himself into a racing snake! He ran the furthest he has ever run in his life – 9 miles – on Saturday! You can also follow Andy’s thoughts and training efforts via his Marathon blogg: andys-marathon-bid.blogspot.com and he has set up online sponsorship pages to raise much needed funds for his two chosen charities.

Please sponsor Andy at: justgiving.com/AndyShootingStar and/or justgiving.com/AndyFutureHope as every £1 you can spare will not only help some very special people but will also spur Andy on during the many hours of training ahead of him, as well as the event itself.
