One of our 2005 summer series is a supporters 'If you could', it starts with, little old me, Giles the Drunk. Throughout the off season we plan to learn a little bit more about many of our 'Usual Suspects'

Relive any 'non-sports related' moment in your life, what would it be and why?

I would have to say meeting Carmel. Or something very different and totally incomparable but possibly seeing a HUGE Humpback Whale breaching about 50 feet in front of the very small boat I was in – nature is awesome!
Enjoy a 'champagne moment' again in your career which one would it be and why? Clinching the contract that made me ‘jump ship’ from corporate life after 14 years !
Enjoy a 'champagne moment' again in sport which one would it be and why?

Probably has to be being the captain of the school basketball team that beat the staff for the first time in 15 years !!
Not be asked one question for the rest of your life what would it be? Surely you’re older than that aren’t you ?
Be a celebrity for the day who would you be? Jose Mourinho – a fantastic combination of success and attitude
Be a sports star for the day who would it be? Phil Mickleson (us lefties have to stick together !)
Have dinner with 4 people from the past or present who would they be? Meg Ryan, Mohammad Ali, Linford Christie and Winston Churchill.
Witness one event from history what would it be? Probably Dunkirk. I know it’s a bit morbid but the way everyone pulled together for the good of hundreds of thousands of stranded troops has always had me in awe.
Go back in time and give advice to a 13 year old Giles Lester what would it be? Give up accountancy earlier, stop worrying about how much you’re earning earlier, leave corporate life earlier.
Win any sporting event in the world what would it be? 100m Olympic final
Try out a new sport what would it be? It's not really trying a new sport as I have been seen hacking around the countryside but I would love to get to a situation where I KNEW that I could hit a golf ball in a straight line to a desired distance. Professional golfers always astound me with their accuracy.
Have one extravagance what would it be? House in the country with a swimming pool (maybe that’s two but….)
Only ever eat one meal again what would it be? Sausage sarnie with Tomato Sauce and a pint of milk
Live anywhere else in the world where would it be? Tricky – maybe Boston in the states. If not Newfoundland to be with my family
Support any other Rugby Club which would it be and why? Probably Bath or Worcester. I enjoy their supporters. I’m not going anywhere tho (and NO not Quins before anyone else says it !!!)
Tell us a claim to fame what would it be? It’s tenuous but my family is in the Guinness Book of Records. The first non-stop trans-atantic flight by Alcock & Brown took off from Lester’s Field in Newfoundland (told you it was tenuous)
See into the future what do you expect to be doing in 10 years time?

Hopefully smiling. Not worrying about work. Still with Carmel, healthy and happy. Who cares about the rest.
Only ever drink one drink again what would it be? Probably JD and coke
Do any other job other than your current one what would it be? Probably a game keeper at an animal or bird reserve. Or running a public aquarium.
Change one thing about yourself what would it be?

Probably lose a few pounds
