Nils started to emerge from the academy last season and is now a regular on both bench and field. Here is a genuine example of home grown talent shining through, admittedly home grown in South Africa until the age of 14, but who are we to split hairs. A promising young talent and one of whom great things are expected. A fluff-covered boiled sweet from the glove box for the first person to find out the origin of Nils's nickname!
Nils was part of the England team in spring 2007 - the triumphant Saxons one that beat the New Zealand Maori to win the Churchill Cup rather than that other team on the ill-fated trip to South Africa. He was once a school pupil of the captain of that team – none other than our Academy Manager, Neal Hatley. Nils has played for England 7s, including winning a Commonwealth Games silver medal, and coached various London Irish 7s squads with the experience thus gained. As well as numerous first team appearances for London Irish, he has successfully captained the "A" team to their first home win in the "A" league for over a year.
