The Sharks played most of the match in their opponents' half to win by three tries to one - with the Falcons not even on the scoresheet until after the 80 minutes were up and Matt Thompson scored an unconverted consolation.
Daniel Larrechea kicked Sale into the lead with three penalties as they attacked repeatedly. Newcastle struggled to get into a rhythm, with Tom Dillon making the odd break but not really imposing himself on the match.
Our defence was managing to keep Sale out, although they missed good overlaps on both sides while sucking our players into the middle, but couldn't take advantage. Oriol Ripol went over at the end of the first half for the game's first try, and Sale led 14-0 after 40 minutes.
The Spanish international increased the lead in the opening minutes of the second period, with Larrechea converting. Although the Falcons played better, with Eni Gesinde showing up well in the lineout, they could not find a way through and with six minutes left England's Chris Jones scored to secure the victory, Thompson's score doing nothing but salvaging a little pride for Newcastle.
Apologies for the lack of depth in this report - we were up in the Gods of Edgeley Park and with my eyes all I could make out were 15 white blobs and 15 blue blobs!
Martin is under strict instructions to get us seats closer to the pitch for the league game in November.
