Per Frandsen
Wanderers took the lead in the eighth minute when Jay Jay Okocha fired the ball into the left hand corner of Brad Friedal's net to give Bolton a dream start over their local rivals. Both Youri Djorkaeff and Okocha then missed two golden opportunities as Bolton took control over their Lancashire neighbours. Bolton continued to create chances and the visitors didn't pose much threat, with Wanderers goalkeeper not being forced into a save in the whole of the first half. The closest Blackburn came to scoring was a cross which Gudni Bergsson just cleared around the post for a corner.
The second half started with much the same pattern with Bolton threatening Friedal's goal on several occasions, Djorkaeff wasting two opportunities along with Okocha, Ricketts, Nolan and Frandsen missing chances with the latter going close for the second time in the game with a left footed strike which went just wide.
As the game wore on, Blackburn got more and more of the possession and created more and more chances as they pushed Bolton further onto the back foot. Wanderers rode their luck with Rovers having several chances and former Manchester United and Aston Villa striker Dwight Yorke smashed the underside of the bar with around fifteen minutes left. Bolton had looked to have done enough to grab a vital victory when the fourth official indicated there would be four minutes of time added on at the end of the game. Blackburn continued to press although Bolton looked threatening on the break and could've clinched it only for the referee to ignore the calls for the final whistle and Short headed home in the 96th minute to grab a point for Rovers and send the travelling 3,000 supporters wild.
Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce will once again have to drill it into his troops that they must concentrate from the first whistle till the last, as Bolton conceded a last gasp goal for the fourth time this season. However, if Bolton play anything like they did today against Leeds next Monday night then they should expect at least a point.
UWO Man of the match:
More or less all the team was on fire but I think one man should be singled out for praise. Per Frandsen was absolutely magnificent against his former club, posing a threat whenever attacking and he was sure footed in defence. He played like his old self prior to his Ewood move. More of the same please Per!
