Manchester City 2 Bolton Wanderers 0

Very poor again
By Matt Lawton
November 30 2002
A commanding performance from Manchester City condemned local rivals Bolton to a disappointing defeat in the Premiership at Maine Road this afternoon.

Bolton were never truly in the game and City deserved their victory. Bolton created very few chances and in fact had to wait until late in the game before they had a realistic goalscoring opportunity which was spurned by a smart double save by Peter Schmeichel after shots from Jermaine Johnson and Jay Jay Okocha.

City took a deserved lead midway through the second half when poor Wanderers defending meant City got a corner and from the resulting flag kick Steve Howey was left all alone to head home unchallenged.

Israeli midfielder Eyal Berkovic clinched the game in the second half.

Bolton will have to improve hugely for the big derby game against Blackburn at the Reebok next week if they are expecting to take anything from the Lancashire derby in their quest for Premiership safety.
