Future England man!
Following on from last year's 2-1 victory over United, Nolan scored the winning goal on 76 minutes with a left foot strike from outside the area following a mistake by David Beckham.
Bolton once again went to Old Trafford to defend in numbers and catch United on the break. For the second season in a row, it worked a treat.
Both sides had chances in the 1st half with Ruud Van Nistelrooy firing against the underside of the bar while both Youri Djorkaeff and Anthony Barness volleyed wide with Henrik Pedersen fluffing a chance to give Wanderers the lead when he shot straight at Fabien Barthez when one-on-one with United's French goalkeeper.
The play was shared pretty equally with both teams having periods of dominance. It was United who were having a period of pressure before Bolton won a throw in level with the United area.
Nolan tried a long throw but it was cleared to David Beckham on the edge of the United area who slipped when trying to chest the ball down and Nolan nipped in to fire home with his 'weaker' left foot. It was yet another reminder to England Under 21 coach David Platt of Nolan's credentials after he was snubbed yet again for the squad to face Yugoslavia at Nolan's home ground at the Reebok.
Another historic victory for Bolton which the supporters will love and Saturday's home game with Liverpool is now set to be a huge party at the Reebok.
