Sub Boyd scores late goal to end Pools run

KK - wanted man
By Clarence Rode
November 2 2008
Former Hartlepool star Adam Boyd got off the subs bench to score a late winner for Leyton Orient against his home town club. Boyd's 25-yard shot, deflected by Sam Collins, gave Orient a victory they hardly deserved, but it was enough to put an end to Hartlepool's four-match winning run in League One, a run partly inspired by on-loan striker Kevin Kyle.

And it is to Kyle that Pools boss Danny Wilson will be turning his attentions this week as he tries to extend the big man's loan from Coventry City.
Kyle has played a major role in the recent Pools revival, but Coventry are aware of his form during the loan and they now claim that it has alerted other club's to Kyle availability.
So guess what -- they want more spondoolicks from Pools. It's estimated that Kyle is on £6,000 a week, split equally between Pools and the Sky Blues during the first month of the loan.
But now Coventry say they want to renegotiate the terms of the loan, so basically it boils down to the fact that if Pools want to keep Kyle, they'll have to pay more.
Hodcroft front (wik)There appears to be little chance of Kyle staying at the club permanently, unless chairman Ken Hodcroft (right) wins the Euro-millions, but an extended loan would be more than useful.
So Danny Wilson will be asking Hodcroft to find some extra cash, and Hodcroft has said several times since the season started that the club is not exactly awash with money at the moment (mind, it took him long enough to say it and it was never mentioned during the summer, when season tickets were on sale).
So don't hold your breath. Pools are not a rich club, the team is in mid-table with few signs of climbing much higher, and the crowds are not big.
Kyle might have helped during the four-game winning run, but it was the same old story at Orient, with missed chances costing Pools what could have been another good result.
Hodcroft will quite rightly be asking: is it worth busting the bank for a player who might have doine well, but can't guarantee wins.
Perhaps they should go for Boyd instead - he was only on the bench on Saturday/
