Celtic weigh up £3m offer for James Brown

James Brown

Hartlepool striker James Brown could be on the move to Glasgow Celtic, according to a national newspaper in Scotland. The Daily Record says Celtic have been watching Brown for some time, and manger Gordon Strachan was at the Vic last night to watch Brown as Pools knocked West Brom out of the Carling Cup.

The Daily Record (Scotland’s version of the Mirror)says: “Spurs, Norwich and Wolves are also on the trail of the hitman who has scored three goals in five games already this season. The striker has attracted a flood of interest over the past 12 months although Hartlepool have made it clear they are not prepared to let him go for less than £3 million.
“Brown only recently put pen to paper on a new three-year deal but Hartlepool manager Danny Wilson said: ‘James has an ability to change a game on his own and I think that's why he attracts so much attention. He is a massive asset - that's why we've put him on the contract.’
Celtic are said to have spare cash after agreeing to sell defender Bobo Balde to Bimingham City.
It’s not clear where the paper has got that figure of £3m from – there’s every chance Pools would accept £1m if a club came in with that sort of offer. Brown has potential, but every player has his price, and Pools aren’t exactly awash with money at the moment.

If Pools get £3m for Brownie they could afford to let the Mail back in

No disprespect to the lad, because he can clearly play a bit, but if Celtic offer £3m for Brownie, Pools should snap both Gordon Strachan's arms off.
Think how many pictures of Alan Shearer they could buy for that!!!!!

i believe i could shed some light on where that particular newspaper got the figure from... reading the tealeaves, pin the tail on the donkey... using the force. so far we've been signing everybody from roman pavulychenko to james mccarthy since it's transfer silly season, andto be honest i wouldn't put too much creedence to articles from that particular publication. and i sincerely doubt we've got £3M to spend on a centre forward who in the short to medium term i'm guessing would be a squad player anyway. unless you lot know different. my hartlepool dossier is sadly deficient and i can't even think that i've ever seen him play, so what do you reckon, is he any good?

Yes, he's good .... but not £3m good yet. I reckon his best bet would be the next transfer window when he's had chance to bed in more as an out-and-out striker (he played wide midfield last season).
