Pools are full of Eastern promise

Links between British and foreign clubs is nothing new, with the likes of Manchester United, Everton, Arsenal and others pushing their brand abroad in an effort to make money and find talent. Now Hartlepool United have followed suit, but their link is not in Europe or the growing markets of China and India. It's in Malaysia, but before anybody starts to laugh, look at the partner club's stadium.

Sarawak badgeSarawak play in the Malayian Premiership and the impressive Jalan Stadium pictured above has regularly hosted crowds of about 45,000.
The game is huge in most Far east countries, and Malayia is no different.
Pools captain Richie Humphreys, who is training as a coach, and youth co-ordinator Nick Green have been on a fact-finding mission to Sarawak and were pleasantly suprised by what they saw.
According to Pools chief exec Russ Green, Sarawak believe their link with Pools gave them a chance to develop as a club, while Pools hope that they can benefit from the talent there is in Far East football.
Sarawak are described as a sleeping giant with big ambitions and potential, planning to become the first Malysian club to have a proper youth development programme, and they are basing it on the one that operats at pools.
They belive they have a more realistic chance of being successful if they do this than if they try to copy one of England's Premiership clubs and bit off more than they can chew.
It might look like pipedream now, but it could be of massive benefit to pools in the future.

Only good can come of this. Hope it isnt allowed to fizzle out and very pleased to see Ritchie's experience being used in this kind of role
