Six shown the door as Pools start to rebuild

Robbie Elliott - out
By Clarence Rode
May 9 2008
Hartlepool have given free-transfer to six players, signed a promising young striker as a pro and stated they want to take up options on the contracts of nine others as the rebuilding work starts. And manager Danny Wilson says there no plan at the moment to make a move for Darryl Duffy, who is available at Swansea after choosing the Welsh side ahead of Pools when he left Hull last summer.

The six players told they are not in Wilson's plans are Robbie Elliott, Ali Gibb, Stephen Turnbull, Scott Allison, Tom Haigh, and Michael Rae. No real surprises there, then, though Wilson admitted that the hardest part of any mansger's job is to tell players they can go.
Antwi (Aug 07)Godwin Antwi has returned to Liverpool after his one-season loan from Anffield, while the first addition to the senior squad for next season is prolific teenage striker Matty Tymon, who has scored 56 goals in the last two seasons. He has now signed a full-time pro contract and will be competing for a first team place next season.
Amongst those he will be competing with could be Joel Porter, the popular Aussie who is one of nine players whose contracts expire this summer but who the club has said it wants to exercise contract options. They are: Porter, Willie Boland, James Brown, Gary Liddle, Michael Mackay, Andy Monkhouse, Michael Nelson, Matty Robson and Martin Young.
Again, perhaps not many surprises as the club says all nine are key to building a succesful squad for next season. David Foley, meanwhile, has been offered an extension to his Pools contract.
Some in that list will surely play big parts next season, but one or two others will probably turn out to be fringe players - again.
Meanwhie, chairman Ken Hodcroft says that Pools will not be splashing too much cash this summer - owners IOR might be rolling in it, but Pools hardly packed in the crowds last season and with no big-money outgoing transfer, tghe kitty is hardly full.
So there's no move for Darryl Duffy, whose switch to Swansea last summer has turned out to be a bit of a flop. He cost the something like £250,000, but has not done as well as he would have hoped. He is available, but Swansea would probably want a fee approacing the one they paid, which is a bit of a cheek for a player who didn't do the bizz last season.
Meanwhile, the rumours that said Danny Wilson was on his bike from Pools appear to have died down a little and the signs are that he is going to be the man to do this summer's shoestring rebuilding work.
At the moment, anyway.

To be fair Arnison wasn't a world beater when he was with us but looks like he might be a Championship player next season. Horwood was the biz last night wish we had got him. Class.
