Ryan Stevenson
Stevenson, a former Chelsea youth player, has had a great season at Ayr United, who play in the Scottish Second Division (whatever that means). He is a part-timer, but has been attracting interest from his former club St Johnstone.
He has been spotted training with Pools this week and the Ayrshire Post reports: "Ryan Stevenson, who scooped three player of the year awards, is playing a waiting game as transfer speculation mounts.
"Stevo, who is under contract for another two years, has been linked with old club St Johnstone and Hartlepool United. He said: 'Full-time football in England appeals to me and my agent has told me Hartlepool have been watching me.'
"Ayr Chairman Lachlan Cameron stressed there had been no contact from other clubs but vowed that Stevo wouldn’t be sold cheaply. He said: 'Exciting players attract attention and I know that Ryan wants to play at the highest level, but there has been no direct interest.”
There is talk that Stevenson would be priced at six figures by Ayr, but whether Pools would spend that on a part-timer remains to be seen. Mind, he scores canny goals -- like this one.
By the way, what's a part-timer in Scottish Mickey Mouse football doing with an agent?
The final game of the season at Walsall, who pipped Pools for the League Two title last season, is of academic interest only, but it could be a final game in blue and white for some of the players on view, whilwe for others it could be the start of a new era as the planning for next season is already under way.
