Portman Road was the first stadium to become all seater in the 1992-93 season, since then the ground has gone under different schemes to improve it even more.

Plans to re-develop Portman Road were given the go ahead in May 2000 after promotion to the Premier League.

These began with a new South Stand being built over Churchmans, which has added an extra 4,000 seats, a new restaurant that looks onto the pitch and a new Legends Bar.

New floodlights were installed to meet the European Football standards.

When South Stand was completed, work then started on the North Stand following the last game of the 2000-01 season, with North Stand regulars being able to buy their old seats. The old Stand was completely pulled down and the first tier opened in October 2001 and the top tier opened in April 2002 increasing the North Stand capacity to 7,000.
