Derek: Move Was Close

Chief Executive Derek Bowden says Town were close to signing another player before the transfer window closed on Monday night.
Town did sign Sheffield United striker Jon Stead on deadline day but he could have been joined at Portman Road by another loanee.

Town chief executive Derek Bowden: "We had been tracking a player for sometime and it looked like there was going to be some movement at his club, but after being told initially that the club would be willing to listen to offers for the player, they then decided they didn't want to sell him so it fell through at around 9pm.

"The loan window opens again next Monday though and we have one or two other targets that we can bring in on 93 day loans.

"It's about bringing in the right players for the right money though, both in terms of fees and wages, so we are quite careful about how we spend the money."
