Lisbie Signs
By Aston July 18 2008
Town have finally signed Colchester United striker Kevin Lisbie on a three year contract, despite Colchester best efforts to keep him.
The 29-year-old striker scored 17 goals for Colchester last season and the U's did try to keep him by offering him a new contract but he has elected to join Town for an undisclosed fee.

Colchester boss Geraint Williams: "We are obviously disappointed to lose Kevin, we showed how much we wanted to keep him and did our best in that regard. However, the lure of Championship football proved too great and he has decided that he would like to join Ipswich.

"On a personal note, I would like to thank Kevin for his service.

"We have been good for his career and he has been good for Colchester United with the quality he has shown."

Re: Lisbie Signs
Ok he wasn't who I wanted if I'm honest, I would have rather had a Championship player who has scored goals serveral times at this level over serveral seasons, which Lisbie hasn't but if he can score 17 goals next season i'll be happy.

Some quotes for the main news page.... I can't edit them.

Colchester had been hoping to persuade Lisbie to stay, with manager Geraint Williams praising the player's contribution to the club.

"We are obviously disappointed to lose Kevin," Williams told the club's official website.

"We showed how much we wanted to keep him and did our best in that regard. However, the lure of Championship football proved too great and he has decided that he would like to join Ipswich.

"On a personal note, I would like to thank Kevin for his service.

"We have been good for his career and he has been good for Colchester United with the quality he has shown."

Re: Lisbie Signs
Okay signing...He'll give us a bit of Pace up top when we need it, But can't see him being anymore of an Impact player unless he proves himself, Unless of course he re-captures the form of last year.

...and if he did start, Is it going to be Lee or Counago who misses out? Lisbie could compliment Lee quite well and I would like to see it, Or we become a bit ambitious with 3 up top...

In terms of Youngsters as well, Bowditch, Clarke & Rhodes can't all have a future here now can they?

We shall have to wait and see...(Sm42)
