Williams Completes Switch
By Aston June 29 2008
Town have sold midfielder Gavin Williams to Bristol City for an undisclosed fee after signing a two year contract with The Robins.
The 28-year-old had a year remaining on his Town deal but he rejected a contract extension earlier this year. He made just 11 starts for Town during 07/08. But he is not bitter about his time at Town ending saying: "I want to say thanks to Jim, Bryan Klug and the rest of the staff for their help in my time at Ipswich and wish them all the best for the future, I had some good times at the Club and there are some great lads there in the dressing-room. The supporters were good to me as well and I'd like to thank them for their backing.

"It's a good move for me, though, going to Bristol. It takes me closer to my family in Wales and that is very important to me and it also gives me a chance to work with Gary Johnson again, who I know well.

"I'm looking forward to my time at Bristol but I want to wish every success to Ipswich."

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson thinks he has a good player in Williams, adding: "I think our supporters will see why I've brought him here pretty soon.

"I believe Gavin will improve our squad. I know him very well and actually I never thought he would become available at the fee we've paid.

"The opportunity was too good to miss.

"The medical was important but people do have bad runs of luck and Gavin had three separate injuries which were all football-related.

"He had a knee injury, ankle injury and a hernia. You get over those, they weren't career-threatening.

"A fit Gavin Williams - mentally and physically - is a very, very good footballer."
