Fans Campaign For Town V Toon
By Aston May 21 2008
A group of enterprising Newcastle United fans are campaigning for an annual friendly between Town and Newcastle United to raise funds for The Bobby Robson Foundation.
The foundation started by Ipswich Town and Newcastle United hero Sir Bobby Robson to raise £500,000 for a cancer treatment centre at the Freeman hospital in Newcastle has already exceeded its target but some (if not all) fans of the Magpies want an annual game between Town and Newcastle to raise extra funds for the foundation.

A message from Sir Bobby, courtesy of the sirbobbyrobsonfoundation.org.uk website:

It is exactly 7 weeks to the day on Tuesday 13th May that we launched the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and I am delighted to announce that we have raised a grand total of £526,310 which I am sure you will agree is an amazing achievement in such a short period of time, however, we still want the donations to continue as we will be announcing new projects over the coming weeks.

I would like to thank everyone who has contributed in any way - with donations and also the hard work that has gone on behind the scenes. I couldn't have done this on my own. The generosity of the general public has been absolutely fantastic and I have to say that I am absolutely honoured and proud to have been involved in this project. I think everyone knows by now how I feel about "teamwork" .... and it just goes to prove that great things can be achieved if we all work together.

Thanks to you, The Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre at the Freeman Hospital will be up and running on schedule and the people of the North East will be the very first to benefit from this state of the art facility.

I know a lot of people out there are planning fundraising events over the coming months and I just want to let you know how thrilled I am about that and to say that every penny you raise will help cancer sufferers in the North East.... so please KEEP DONATING !!

Best wishes.

Sir Bobby Robson CBE

I would support your campaign for a match aginst the Toon , maybe year on year at respective venues. But there is no freemasons hospital in Newcastle ,one of the local hospitals is the Freeman, maybe a little bit of confusion.

P.S. I am a freemason aswell as a big Toon fan.
