A Round-Up Of The Day
By Cuth
July 16 2002
Town have secured the services of two popular players from last seasons squad. Ian Fitzpatrick and Steve Bushell have agreed terms for next season on the same day as the Shaymen lose 2-1 to Bradford City in a behind-doors friendly.

A Round-Up Of The Day

Today sounds as though it has been a productive day for Halifax Town.

The re-signing of skilful Fitzpatrick and the grafter Bushell are important pieces of the jigsaw for next season. There is no doubt that these two will be important if we are going to have a successful season.

Fitzpatrick can play either wide of upfront, but I would personally love to see him in a free role playing just behind the front two. This role would be similar to the one that Jamie Paterson played for Town and we all know how effective he was. They are very similar players and Fitzpatrick is definitely a Town hero in the making.

Bushell is already classed as a hero by some Town fans. He might have only joined the club half way through last season, but nobody put more effort into trying to save the Shaymen from relegation. He is a battling player who sits deep in midfield and hopefully he will be made Captain for next season. Bushell is probably the only good thing Alan Little did for Halifax Town.

Anyway, Town played their second friendly today, which was once again played behind closed doors.

The match was played against Bradford and ended up in a 2-1 defeat for Chris Wilders team.

But I think this was a encouraging especially as Bradford fielded a full strength team with the likes of Robert Molenaar, David Whetherall and Danny Cadamateri playing.

Our goal was scored by some bloke called Ward, but who he is I don't know, whether he was just someone dragged in off the street to make up numbers or one of the trialists.

I would like to be able to tell you who else played, but I will probably have to wait for tomorrow's courier because the official website has no information.

But, like I said it was encouraging, to say that some of our players are strangers to each other and the Bradford team was made up mostly of players from last season.

There is no doubting the fact that Wilder would have been the happiest of the two managers and he must surely be happy with the progress the squad are making.
