The Battle For The Halifax Town |
|
The first bid to save the club was made by Halifax Town fans Adie Hall and David Cairns. They have both been involved in the boardroom for some considerable years and were the only people to make the effort of putting a rescue package together to save the club. Although the full details have not been revealed, their consortium comprises of the two of themselves as well as 4 other local businessmen. They are also hoping to attract another 6 investors to join their bid for the club. O'Hara did state last week that the Hall/Cairns bid falls short of what the Inland Revenue will be hoping for, but this does not mean that their proposals will be declined. The other bid that O'Hara has received is from Michael Lloyd of Huddersfield. He owns a company which was based in Hipperhome but has since moved it to Ireland. The bid is backed by ex-Chairman who it seems will be returning back to the Shay if they gain control over the club. This is something which will cause quite a stir in the supporters' ranks. Many fans blame Walker for the position we are now in, and they feel that a return to the club by Walker will be of no benefit to the club as a whole. This bid which is being handled by Gameplan International is possibly a cause for concern. Gameplan International carry out detailed assessments of potential projects which avoids investors wasting time. So this makes it seem as though there could be a hidden agenda behind the bid for the club. There is no doubt that the stadium will make money once fully complete, and the Lloyd consortium has already indicated how important to their takeover bid the stadium is. Now I am sure that nobody will have any grievances about the Lloyd consortium wanting to finish the stadium as long as the funds are pumped back into the football and rugby club. But if Lloyd and his group are looking at making a huge personal gain out of the takeover then I for one do not back this consortium. It was in the paper last week saying that Lloyd was fed up of seeing the decline of both the rugby club and football club in the town and he wanted to change the fortunes of the clubs. But from the outside it seems that Gameplan and its investors are after making cash out of using Halifax Town and the Blue Sox to get full use of the income from the Shay and in particular the East stand. If this is the case then it is worrying. There might be investment going into East stand to get it finished, but what actual investment will be going into the club? O'hara has said that their bid is very vague, and only a couple of week ago he challenged them to put their money where their mouth is by paying up £50,000 just to keep the club running on a day to day basis. Of course this didn't happen, and the deal they did put on the table came later than the deadline that O'Hara first set. "I would say at this stage the plan is
nothing more than mischievous,'' he said. It does seem that Peter O'Hara is not happy with the Gameplan International bid, and I think as time goes on the supporters of the club will increasingly become more suspicious just as I am. As the quote above says, they are playing mischievous games and this is worrying. I felt very positive when news of their bid was first released, but after what Peter O'Hara has said it makes me feel more and more nervous about our position. My backing at the moment is going to the Adie Hall and David Cairns group. People might have different opinions about these two men, but at least they are Halifax Town through and through. |
