Robinson Runs To Foxes

Released Essex stalwart Darren Robinson has joined Leicestershire on a two-year deal. Robbo joins Jon Dakin in moving to the ailing midlands club over the winter.
Robinson Runs To Foxes

Darren Robinson was one of five players released by Essex at the end of the 2003 season, in a bid to cut costs at Chelmsford.

On his move, Robinson commented: "I am very excited at the prospect of joining Leicestershire CCC. With my best years ahead of me I feel that I can help the club compete for honours in the future. Leicestershire CCC are forming what I believe is a strong squad and I am looking forward to the 2004 season with a great deal of optimism"

At 30 years of age and having had the advantage of watching Darren over the last decade, most of us Essex fans will question his best years are ahead of him, but perhaps a change and a fresh start will do Robbo a world of good.

There's no doubt the talent is within him, it's just producing it on a regular basis. A career record of 7,149 first-class runs at only 31 is a poor return for a man with much more ability.

Scimitars would like to wish Darren all the best for the future at his new county and look forward to seeing him in action against Essex in the coming season.
