Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Everton v Newcastle
By Tyne-Talk October 4 2008
Everton host Newcastle this weekend, in their 7th Premier League game of the season. Both sides have won just one of their last 6 games throughout all competitions whilst neither side have won a game in their last 5. Both sides have injury worries, with Newcastle having had approximately 11 potential 1st team players out over the last 3 weeks.
Both Everton and Newcastle head into this match with problems behind the scenes, Newcastle are without a permanent manager and the club is up for sale, whilst Everton manager David Moyes looks set to end his contract with the club at the end of the season after refusing to sign a new one.

Everton will be without Tim Cahill, who is beginning his 3 match ban after being sent off for a challenge of Xabi Alonso last weekend in the Merseyside derby. Phil Neville and Louis Saha could both be out after picking up injuries in Everton's UEFA cup match against Standard Liege in which they lost 2-1.

Joe Kinnear will take control of his first match as interim manager after causing more controversy for the club with a tirade of expletives in his press conference this week. His side sit one place from the bottom of the table just above Tottenham Hotspur and could sink to bottom should Spurs beat Hull City

Newcastle will be relieved to welcome back Danny Guthrie who has completed his 3 match ban after being issued a red card earlier in the season against Hull City, whilst Jose Enrique (hamstring) could also play some part after returning to training and making good progress in recovering from his injury.

Unfortunately Obafemi Martins, Mark Viduka, Jonas Gutierrez, Ignacio Gonzalez and Alan Smith all remain injured whilst Joey Barton is serving an FA suspension for his assault on Ousmane Dabo. Habib Beye, despite returning to training this week will also miss the match after being ruled out just before the team left Tyneside earlier today.

A lifeline just before half time but to be fair we haven't looked dangerous at all.

Taylor is not a RB... all their goals and chances have come down our right.

Nice goal from Taylor though! Midfield got to get into this more especially Nzog and Duff (is he up front or behind Owen?)

Let see what JFK's half time talk will do!

We could have won it in the end...but I'll take a point.

International break next week so hopefully we can get some players ready for our next game.

The sooner the club gets taken over and we get rid of the Muppet Kinnear the better.

What was the point of him trying to get pitchside....he really is thick like.

yeah kinnear needs to sort his head out the lads played well second half but the more i see of mr kinnear the more i am glad he wont be here long. And why do you play enrique if you know he wont last the full match? not very often i agree with andy gray but i do on this occasion.

2-2 i would of settled for that before the game so i am pleased just hope i can say it more often

I think overall we played fairly well. Yes we had a few bad moments in the match, but we showed great character to bounce back and in fairness we probably deserved to win, that's how good we responded. I'll certainly take a point!

2-2 good point but we could have won it.

Can't wait for Jonas and Martins to be back.

Both goals scored when JFK was not watching.. maybe we should tell him we're away next game!

Yeah and Barton but a few of us won't like to admit it.
