Newcastle United's press office must have a new writer keen to make an impression.The office has been busy this week, releasing yet another Official Club statement regarding Kevin Keegan's former position at the clu band the "facts" as to why he left in dramatic style on Thursday evening after an uncertain week.

Newcastle United's press office must have a new writer keen to make an impression.The office has been busy this week, releasing yet another Official Club statement regarding Kevin Keegan's former position at the clu band the "facts" as to why he left in dramatic style on Thursday evening after an uncertain week.
It is unusual for a club to have to clarify its position in a series of statements, rather than just the one, which read as attention seeking and childish rather than taking a professional stance.
The most recent statement released just a few hours ago reads:
"NUFC wished, at all times, to keep any dispute that it had with Kevin Keegan private.
It is therefore disappointing that information has reached the media through unnamed sources and a briefing has been given by the League Managers Association that could give rise to a misleading impression amongst the club's fans.
Newcastle United have no desire to engage in a war of words, but inaccurate reporting of factual matters and inaccurate allegations have to be corrected.
It is a fact that Kevin Keegan, on appointment on January 16, 2008, agreed to report to a director of football and to the board.
It is a fact that Kevin Keegan worked within that structure from January 16, 2008 until his resignation.
It is a fact that Kevin Keegan, as manager, had specific duties in that he was responsible for the training, coaching, selection and motivation of the team.
It is a fact that Kevin Keegan was allowed to manage his specific duties without any interference from any board member.
It is a fact that Kevin Keegan agreed only to deal with the media in relation to club matters relating to the team and not to communicate with the media in relation to the acquisition or disposal of players.
It is a fact that NUFC is a business and operates, like all businesses, with financial constraints.
It is a fact that NUFC's financial constraints inform its transfer dealings.
The board of NUFC have responsibility to ensure that the club is able to meet its commitments, which include the wages and the transfer fees for players.
The structure at NUFC is clear, and has been clear from January 16, 2008."
Another statement which aims to discredit Keegan, another statement which implies that its audience is not intelligent enough to understand how a football club works and what a manager is employed to do. This statement points out the obvious, things which needn't have been said, yet fails to address why Kevin Keegan resigned and once again detracts blame from the board....just like the last one.
What the fans want is not a list of "Facts" but a list of answers, reasons why transfers were not complete. Reasons why targets went to other clubs. Reasons why Keegan was not allowed to bring in who he wanted and reasons why Mike Ashley was spending thousands boozing while allowing Dennis Wise and Derek Llambias to walk away from Newcastle United.

recognise what is going on, keegan is making a case for unfair dismissal and they are trying to protect themselves against this. right or wrong, surely you can understand the reasoning behind this statement? the lma are a powerful union, and they have, again understanably, backed their man publically this week. this is a direct response to those earlier statements.
i'm not saying i agree with them on this, but honestly, what should they be saying?

I think they should make a statement but that 1 would have been enough and it should have been though out properly so that this wasnt needed.
The facts arent want the fans need to hear and most of them are already know. If a case for unfair dismissal is going ahead then public statements will mean nothing.

Its the aggresive tone is what really gets me its almost like they wanna confront the fans and the media! I think they have been very badly advised and i m quite shocked at thier response too all this.

so what do we now want? i'm really not sure what i'm hoping for, but my nagging thought is that whats done is done and we have to move forward. this isnt aimed at anyone at all, but how much can we achieve sniping at the clubs every movement?
i want what i'm sure everyone else does, which is a fresh start with a new owner, but that is only acheivable if someone out there is about to make ashley an offer he finds acceptable. we cant affect that. i still support nufc, unfortunately maybe, but that means i support nufc as they currently are, not just as i would like them to be

Suppose the truth is there are many stances you can take. Unfortunately I am sick to my stomach of this lot and can not just "move on" as though nothing has happened.
Sometimes you have to make a stance and I guess this is my stance. I wont be going back for the time being.
I will however be outside the ground against Hull joining in with any outside protest.

Statement in respect of further comments from Newcastle United F.C.
The directors of Newcastle United Football Club have late this evening issued a statement. The League Managers Association and Kevin Keegan made the following response.
Richard Bevan, LMA chief executive, said:
“Kevin Keegan’s chief complaint, amongst others, is that it was always agreed that the director of football could not impose a player that the manager did not want. This agreement has been broken and, notwithstanding the fact that the chairman at the time of Kevin Keegan’s appointment, the director of football and the owner of Newcastle United, have confirmed previously in public meetings and publications, that he would always have the final say.”
Kevin Keegan said:
“At the time at which I joined Newcastle United Football Club it was made very clear to me that I would have the final say on player movement in and out of the club.”

In the Evening Chronicle (Newcastle) on 1st February this year, Newcastle United’s executive director of football, Dennis Wise, said: “I am here to help Kevin as much as possible with bringing young players through and also recommending certain players to him. He will say yes or no. He has the final word. No-one else. I am not going to do things like bring players in behind his back. I am not into that. Everything that happens will be run past him and he will say yes or no.”
In an interview that appears in the September edition of the official Newcastle United magazine Mike Ashley said: "If the deal is right - and that means the right player who Kevin wants - then we will do that deal. Kevin himself is very particular about who he wants. To use his words, they have to have the right heart for Newcastle. That is massively important for him. If they don't then he's not interested."

That's why we can't 'just move on.' This club is, apparently, going to be run in a shady fashion going forward. I don't know if I can support that, in the literal material sense, or in the symbolic sense. I don't give a good goddamn about any official statements or lawsuits, but I won't support a board that hamstrings managers on the whim of a first-time chairman who's been a football follower for all of what? Five years? And who also condescends to the people on whom his business depends as a matter of standard operating procedure. I really hope he sells soon. I don't know that I'll be able to support this club in the same way as I have for two decades until he does...
