NUFC Warned Off Poyet
By Tyne-Talk September 6 2008
Tottenham Hotspur have stepped in to prevent any contact being made between the Newcastle United board and their number 2 Gus Poyet; telling the club to back off. A club source has warned that permission would not be granted for Poyet to go into discussions with any club as he has a long term contract with Spurs.
Poyet is the bookies favourite to be Newcastle's 5th manager in less than 3 years, with some having him at 3-1.

The club source told The Sun:

"Gus is on a long-term contract having only joined the staff a year ago. So it wouldn't be cheap if Newcastle tried to get him.

But it won't even get that far. There's no way they'll get permission to talk to him.

Gus will be a great No1 one day but he's happy at Spurs and is held in very high regard here."

The link between Poyet and Newcastle is strengthened by the fact that Dennis Wise's looks set to remain as Executive Director for Newcastle United and the two worked well together at both Swindon and Leeds before going their separate ways.

Until a new manager is in post, Wise is expected to take charge of the 1st team affairs which may also see him temporarily managing them for the Hull game.
