Guthrie: "The Level Is Higher"
By Tyne-Talk August 7 2008
New boy Danny Guthrie is hoping to provide the goals his new club crave. He scored his second goal for Newcastle against PSV Eindhoven last night and is certain he can continue to do so. Guthrie, who prefers to play centre midfield is relishing the chance to make the starting eleven against Manchester United next weekend after his impressive preseason performances.

He told The Chronicle:

"Scoring goals is something I am looking to add to my game.

At Bolton it was tough last year because they were struggling. There weren't many chances and we always seemed to be hanging on.

Playing in a team where the level is higher, the boys find you when you are in space.

They give you options on the ball and it make it easier. My aim is to be in the first XI and play every game.

By having a good pre-season that puts me up there with a chance.

My best position is central midfield, but I can play on either side. I prefer to play in the middle, though."

Got to give him credit really, don't think many were too overwhelmed when we signed him, but his head seems to be in the right place and he's saying all the right things as well it seems as performing to a decent standard on the pitch so far in pre-season.

Re: Guthrie: "The Level Is Higher"
If he keeps his head down and works his socks off he'll be a hit. Some goals would be a nice bonus. A strong squad will always include some hungry young players and he looks like he could fill that role.

Also, I was recently thinking about how he'll be useful if Platini ever gets his 6+5 ridiculousness off the ground.

We'd be fine right now if 6+5 came in, Harper, Taylor, Milner, Guthrie, Butt and Owen all ready, but hopefully it won't come in because it is @#$%&.
