Shola Forces Ipswich Move To Collapse
By Tyne-Talk June 13 2008
Newcastle United's out-of-favour striker Shola Ameobi's move to Ipswich looks set to collapse after the 26 year old refused to commit himself; hoping instead that a Premier League club would come in for him. Unfortunately this hasn't been the case and Newcastle now look to lose approximately £3.5million from the transfer.

It is the second deal arranged for the player in the last 8 weeks to fall through. Initially Stoke had negotiated a £4million package for Ameobi who played for them on loan last season, but that fell through after he decided he didn't want to move there on a permanent deal despite assisting them in their promotion to the Premier League.

Stoke Citys Shola Ameobi is fouled by Crystal Palaces Mark Hudson during the Coca-Cola Championship

Unfortunately for Shola, things don't look good. He currently sits behind strikers Obafemi Martins, Mark Viduka and Michael Owen and doesn't appear to be in manager Kevin Keegan's plans for the future; he may be resigned to playing in a lower league club.

The collapse will be a huge blow to Kevin Keegan as he aims to recoup cash in order to strengthen his squad prior to the 2008/2009 campaign.

Former Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder who is currently managing Norwich City is a fan of the former Under 21 England International, but hasn't enough funds to firstly pay the transfer fee and secondly meet Ameobi's current wages.

Beggars can't be choosers....in the past his football has been nothing more than Championship standard.

He's starting to annoy me now.

Just hit the road son we don't want you here.

You have some work to do before a premier league club see's you as an asset they'd like to aquire.

His only chance is to sign for a championship club or a newly promoted premier league one.

Plus the fact that he has messed 2 teams about may put any potential buyer off.
Maybe he could try North of the border, the SPL is about on a par with the championship.
I agree with Joe, that he isnt wanted at the Toon.

If he wanted to remain in the Premiership why didn't he just join Stoke...all this could be done and dusted now with us with £4mil and him remaining in the Prem but he obviously thinks he's better than he is.

Totally agree, Nathan. You want to go to the premier league? What's wrong with this picture? Here's a tip: Arsenal aren't interested. At best he'll go to Wigan or Bolton or somewhere like that where he'll be in basically the same position he would at Stoke. This makes no sense.
