Martins Fit!
By Tyne-Talk June 12 2008
Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins will be fit for preseason after pulling out of Nigeria's recent international games citing an ankle injury. Several reports of late have suggested he would miss the beginning of the season through his injury but neither the club nor Martins himself have indicated this to be the case and he is expected to be present on 7th July when the team comes together.

Interestingly Nigerian manager Shaibu Amodu gave a statement last week confirming Oba's injury after the Nigerian media stirred up controversy by claiming the striker had gone AWOL and was feigning injury.

Amodu said:

"Obafemi said he had a scan on his ankle and the doctors said he'd be out for eight weeks."

Keegan will welcome Martins return and the news that he is fully fit after it was confirmed Australian striker Mark Viduka is likely to miss preseason with his Achilles injury but should be fit in time for the beginning of the 2008/2009 season; increasing Keegan's chances of having all 3 strikers fit from the start of the new campaign.
