The Roos got away to an early lead before Carlton got started. From there the Blues controlled the margin amidst the obligatory Roo comeback and heart palpitations to record a 9 point victory. The hero was Brendan Fevola who bagged 8 goals in his best ever game at this level continuing the resurgence in a career that was all but over last season. Other standout performers for the Blues were veteran Andrew McKay, Adrian Hickmott, Matthew Lappin, Scott Camporeale, Darren Hulme and Brett Thornton. If truth be told the whole team were first class except for those that spent most of the night on the pine, Bret Thornton will find himself in trouble for running into the umpire. Replays are inconclusive as to whether Bret apologised, fanned the umpire with palm fronds or gave him a back rub to make up for the incident. Special mention again goes to Jarrad Waite who is a class act and
Brad Fisher who shows poise belying his age and draft pick.
Unfortunately a knee injury will curtail Brad's activity the next few
weeks. One can't help but feel that all who took the field against
the Roos are part of a delicate team balance and any that are missing
will cost us dearly.
