Rain washes victory hopes away.

Margate's No. 1
By David Slater August 13 2005
Only 8 overs were possible today before the rain set in forcing the captains to agree a draw. In those 8 overs, Alan Richardson bowled Darren Bicknell, with Notts reaching 128/1 when the rain brought an early end to procedings.

Day 3:

Middlesex were left needing 10 wickets on day four, after a rain interupted day at Trent Bridge. Having declared 385/4, a lead of 529, they allowed Notts to get 107 of those runs without loss.

Shah and Joyce picked up where they left off, both passing 100 before Joyce was stumped by Read on 101. Jamie Dalrymple replaced him at the crease, hitting 45 but when the rain came just after his dismissal, Hutton chose to declare, leaving Shah stranded on 173 not out.

The Notts reply was uneventful. They crused to 107/0 leaving them needing 423 more today to win. Middlesex meanwhile need all 10 wickets but will not have Mel Betts at their disposal. He tore a leg muscle yesterday.

Day 2:

Middlesex were in total control of procedings at Trent Bridge, after a career best haul of 6-59 from Peter Trego ensured a dismal display from the Notts batsmen as they were all out for 181. Middlesex reached 217/2 at close.

Whatever Trego had for breakfast today he should have everyday as he was lightening out of the blocks, taking the first four wickets of the innings before Mel Betts removed Hussey. Richardson joined in on the act taking three, leaving the other two for Trego. Only Swann offered any resistance for the hosts, hitting 53 before he too was Tregoed.

The Middlesex reply was largely uneventful. Ealham removed the openers (Ed Smith 25 & Ben Hutton 31), before Owais Shah (95*) and Ed Joyce (61*) took control and started cruising. They reached 217 at stumps, already a partnership of 147, putting the visitors in control.

Day 1:

A superbe 128 from Ed Smith helped guide Middlesex to 325 all out; a score that seemed unlikely at one stage. In reply Notts were 33/0 at the close of play.

After a good recent run of form, Ben Hutton had a poor start, being trapped leg before for 0. Owais Shah offered some resistance but soon went for 27 and was then quickly followed by Ed Joyce (5). It was left to Smith to be the back bone of the innings and he did that in style, hitting 22 fours in his 128.

He was supported by Jamie Dalrymple, batting at five who hit 60 in a stand of 139. Smith then fell but 38 from Paul Weekes, 20* from Ben Scott, 25 from Alan Ruchardson and 13 from Mel Betts guided Middlesex to 325, despite two twickets (Peter Trego (1) and Chris Wright (0)) in two balls from Harris

There were still 12 overs left of the day to go and Notts used them to reach 33/0. The worrying aspect for Middlesex was that Richardson, who missed the Glamorgan and Warwickshire matches, was replaced by Trego after bowling 3 overs for 10 runs.
