Sophia, so good

MOTM
By Barmy Kev July 21 2005
Middlesex moved within four points of totesport League Division One leaders Essex as they trounced Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens by 111 runs.

Hutton opted to bat first after winning the toss which spared us from batting under lights. After a slow start Weekes pushed on with 72 at the top of the order convinced he was on for a ton. With Shah failing and Styris out off Ganguly's  first ball - my fault for shouting part time bowler - at 149-5, 230 looked par score.

However, Joyce and Hutton both contributed 61 as they put on 110 for the sixth wicket with some brutal hitting. Joyce's was dropped twice from sitters. Loss of 3 wickets in last over followed by 6 by Richardson who had to rush to get pads on took the 'Sex to a formidable 284. However, memories of Glous fresh in mind ,not convinced this was winning target.

Glamorgan's reply wasn't helped by careless run-outs of Robert Croft and the dangerous Alex Wharf.  They never really looked like getting close with Hutton and the impressive Peploe who  took 4-38 stemming run rate. Weekes took two late wickets as the hosts were bowled out for 173 with 9.2 overs left.  Ace took 5 catches.

All round an excellent performances with Hutton nominated a deserved man of match.
