Runs in vain
The Cup holders started well at 8 an over with 43 runs on board until Scott Syris bowled Ackerman off his first ball. We got away with Hutton giving away just 6 off his first and only over, whilst Pepsi had a superb spell of 2-17 from his four overs. He also contributed with a brilliant run out of danger man Rogers, who was dismissed by backing up too far. A potential 200 score looked more like 150. The momentum swung back to Leicestershire with Richo conceding 17 off his last and our penultimate over and Mel B got away with 11 + 2 wickets off his last over. 159-6 was the score, which still looked gettable with our strength in batting.
However, Willoughby destroyed our top order in finishing with 3-11. Having had Shah caught at a tactically placed leg gully, Smith and Weekes quickly followed. At 16-3 from 5, the match was vitually over. An unbeaten 73 from Scott Styris was never going to be enough and begs the question what was he doing at no. 5.
Leicestershire held 2 excellent deep catches to dispose of Rymple and Joyce and had these gone to floor, there may have been some hope.
On the whole, Leicestershire deserved their win and we should look back at getting this far as an achievement.
Many thanks to Dave Slater and Jez who helped me getting behind the team vocally when we were completely outnumbered.
