Weekes ton in vain as Cup hopes end

105
By David Slater May 17 2005
Middlesex's C&G Trophy hopes came to a disapointing end at Lord's today as a late collapse gave Northamptonshire a 19 run victory.

After the early dismissal of Love (2) things quickly went wrong as Shafayat (40), Afzaal (75) and Sales (40) but the visitors in control. Despite a breif wobble, 36* from White was curtial in guiding Northants to 238 all out. Betts and Richardson, the leading bowlers, both taking 3-46.

Whilst Paul Weekes hit 105, things weren't so good with the remaining batsmen as only three got into double figures; Strauss (24) Smith (42) and Styris (26 off 17). But when Styris went, so did Middlesex's hopes as the last 6 wickets fell for a total of 8 runs. Damien Wright (4-38) took four of them whilst Johan Louw (2-51) took the other two.

Northants now face a trip to Headingley for the quarter finals where they play Yorkshire.
