Team effort out-Foxes Leicestershire
By David Slater August 9 2004
A superb team effort by the Crusaders put them on the brink of promotion as they recorded a 17 run (D/L Method) over the new Twenty20 Cup champions, who ironically failed to reach a revised target of 135 in 20 overs.

Rain caused a 15 minute delay before the start and the match was originally reduced to 43 overs. The rain held off for 41.5 of them as the Cursaders, lead by Jamie Dalrymple (40), Paul Weekes (38) returning skipper Ed Joyce (31) and Ben Hutton (30) reached 215/9 when the rain came.

A long delay followed before the Foxes were set a revised target of 135 off 20 overs. Their reply got off slowly as both openers fell to Simon Cook, before Brad Hodge and Stevens dug in. But 63 proved the unlucky number as they were both dismissed on that score, Hodge to Mel Betts, Stevens to Agarkar who then went on to remove Sadler and Snape. Dispite the best effots of the Leicestershire tail, they were eventually all out for 117 with 8 balls to spare.

Middlesex will now hope that Derbyshire beat Yorkshire tomorrow night and our Taunton based old boys do a job on Durham on Wednesday evening (both matches on Sky) because if so, a win against Worcestershire on Sunday would seal promotion.
