Rain wrecks final day
By Jeremy Horne May 30 2004
Only 6 overs of play were possible on the final day of Middlesex’s game against Lancashire, ensuring that the match ended as a draw, with both teams receiving 10 points. Owais Shah ended unbeaten on 67, adding only 1 run to his overnight score.

DAY 3:

Fortunes changed again on Day 3 as Middlesex fought back into contention against Lancashire at Old Trafford. The home side had resumed on 253-2, but Jamie Dalrymple, Chris Peploe and Nantie Hayward each took 3 wickets as Lancs subsided to 417 all out.

With a first innings deficit of 35, Middlesex then reached 117-2 at the close, a lead of 82. Owais Shah remains unbeaten on 66, but the dismissal of Ben Hutton in the last over of the day could be a crucial factor in deciding tomorrow’s result.

DAY 2:

Lancashire staged a spirited fight back on day 2 of the championship match against Middlesex to put them in firm control of the all-important top of the table clash. After Middlesex collapsed from 323-5 overnight to 382 all out, Lancs eased to 253-2 at the close, with Mark Chilton making 93.

Despite dominating the first day’s play, the ‘sex found things difficult on day 2. Sven Koenig could only add one to his overnight score of 170, but an unbeaten 81 from David Nash did ensure that Middlesex passed 350 as they were eventually bowled out for 382.

The response from Lancashire was solid as Mark Chilton and Iain Sutcliffe put on 126 for the 1st wicket. The stand was eventually broken by spinner Chris Peploe, who was playing in his 1st championship game of the season as a replacement for Chad Keegan. Peploe initially removed Sutcliffe and then Chilton, but an unbroken stand of 64 between Loye and Law took Lancs to 253-2 as stumps were taken.

DAY 1:

A career best knock of 170no from Sven Koenig put Middlesex in control of their top of the table clash against Lancashire at Old Trafford. Koenig batted through the day to record his first century of the season and received good support from Ben Hutton (27), Owais Shah (35) and David Nash (45).
