Day 3:
Middlesex face an uphill struggle to get anything out of the game at Sussex as we go into the final day on 157-5, just 12 runs ahead. Sussex had earlier extended their 1st innings score to 537 with Mark Davis and Billy Taylor adding a century stand for the last wicket.
Day 2:
Sussex launched an astonising recovery having been 107/6 at one stage. They eventually closed in the lead on 401/8. Prior scored 148 and Davis was unbeaten on 97 at the close
Day 1:
Mushtaq Ahmed claimed figures of 6-145 as Middlesex collapsed from 309-3 and 374-5 to be bowled out for 392 after winning the toss and batting first. Andrew Strauss and Owais Shah had earlier both recorded centuries as they shared in a 3rd wicket partnership of 219.
Middlesex made 3 changes to the team that was disappointingly beaten at Edgbaston last week as Sven Koenig returned from injury to replace Robin Weston, Joe Dawes came in for Tim Bloomfield and young spinner Chris Peploe was given a championship debut at the expense of Jamie Dalrymple. Koenig's return did not begin happily though, as he was one of Jason Lewry's 2 early victims, which reduced us to 33-2. This was when Strauss and Shah, both of whom have prospered in the second half of the season, took centre stage.
At 252-2, Middlesex were on top and on course to post a large 1st innings total before the ever effective Mushtaq Ahmed came along to take his wicket tally for the season up to 95 as our batsmen wilted against the spin yet again. Sussex were left to negotiate two overs before the close, but opted to take the offer of bad light.
