Middlesex made 278/4 from their 45 overs, mainly due to a 157 patnership between Strauss and Joyce.
In reply, despite an early Bloomfield wicket, Law and Sutcliffe set off in style. Law went lbw to Weekes and then Sutcliffe was clean bowled by Dalrymple. However he didn't walk and after a long discussion, the umpires asked the third umpire what happened. Eventually he was given out.
Then it was the Carl Hooper show. Joyce orignally caught him but fell over the rope. Then he was nearly run out. Again the decision went to the third umpire and the first view wasnt really any use as Nashy was blocking the stumps. Insted of looking for another angle he said Hooper was in.
And that proved costly as Hooper claimed his 50 and Lancashire went top, leaving Middx with a job to do if they are to go up.
