Somerset poach honours
By Jeremy Horne August 7 2003
Middlesex lost to Somerset by 67 runs at Taunton today as Jamie Cox hit a one day best score of 130 as the home side set the 'sex a massive 284 to win. Our chase never got going and we were eventually all out in the 40th over for 216, with Ed Joyce being the only man to pass 50.
Somerset won the toss and after choosing to bat they got off to a great start before two wickets fell on 63, one of them being the Middlesex reject Keith Dutch who got a big fat zero. Cox was then well supported by Keith Parsons (38), James Hildreth (27) and Wes Durston (30) as Somerset tore the Middlesex bowling apart. Tim Bloomfield did get four wickets for the second time in three days, but they came at a cost of more than a run a ball.

Middlesex were in trouble early on in the reply as both openers fell for single figures. Weston and Shah both made 30's, but neither was really enough to have any influence on the game and despite Joyce's 50 and 38 from Jamie Dalrymple the 'sex suffered a heavy defeat.
