Middlesex 'till he dies
By Jeremy Horne July 13 2003
Middlesex posted their highest ever limited overs score as they secured a comfortable 32 run win over Scumerset at Southgate. The match also saw former Middlesex player Aaron Laraman show where his loyalties lie as he bowled 5 overs for 60, made a handful of fielding errors and was run out for 2.
After winning the toss, Middlesex couldn't have asked for a better start as Andrew Strauss and Paul Weekes shared in a stand of 150 for the opening wicket, with both stroking many crisp boundaries. When they were dismissed after looking well set, Owais Shah and Abdul Razzaq added a very brisk 114 off 84 balls to keep the momentum of the innings going. Razzaq, who again played a blistering innings, smashed 5 sixes in his 79, which took just 49 deliveries. Simon Cook also added a couple of late blows as Middlesex passed 300 and closed on 337-5 off their 45 overs, our highest ever limited overs total.

In response, Scumerset lost Carl Gazzard early on, but former captain Jamie Cox and Middlesex reject Keith Dutch rallied the innings by adding a half-century stand to get the innings going. Cox fell to Abdul Razzaq for 39, but Dutch continued to play his strokes and reached a fine half century before being trapped leg before by Jamie Dalrymple, the first of 2 wickets in 2 balls fir the young spinner as he also bowled Michael Burns for a duck. Ian Blackwell also posted a fifty before he too was dismissed by Dalrymple, who finished with 3-55.

From 163-6, Scumerset did manage to pass 300 thanks to a hard hitting 51 not out from Wes Durston, whilst Chad Keegan took 3-46.
