After winning the toss, Andrew Strauss elected to bat and it was not long before the captain himself was back in the pavilion. It was left to Paul Weekes, who together with Shah put on a stand of 42 for the 2nd wicket. Weekes was the next to go as he was caught by Usman Afzaal (Barmy Kev's best friend) off Gareth Clough for 40. Chad Keegan shortly followed as he was dismissed by the same bowler for a duck, leaving the 'sex at an awkward 66-3. Ed Joyce then joined Shah for a half-century stand, before he, and then Nash, was removed by Richard Logan. Another 50 partnership then developed, this time between Robin Weston and Shah and this, together with a stand of 30 between Hutton and Shah saw Middlesex past 200 as we were eventually all out for 234 with one over to spare.
In their response, Nottinghamshire were soon reeling at 39-2, with Joe Dawes and Simon Cook taking a wicket apiece. Half centuries from Guy Welton and Kevin Pietersen (82 off 70 balls) then put the home side in control as they reached 173-3. Middlesex's change in fortunes came from the unlikely source of Ed Joyce, who managed to take his first two one day wickets in a 3 over spell, including the vital scalp of Pietersen. Notts had lost four wickets for 28 and were 201-7 when Richard Logan joined Russell Warren for a stand of 32, but when Logan, who had earlier taken 4-44 with the ball, was run out off the last ball his side were defeated by a single run.
Middlesex were always destined for victory, after all WE NEVER LOSE WITH THE DAWESY!! (as twenty over cricket is Minnie Mouse and not counted as proper cricket). The win also moves us up to 3rd in the table, behind Northamptonshire and Lancashire.
