Sadlier Forced To Quit
By Ade O`Connor September 4 2003
Millwall and Republic of Ireland international striker, Richard Sadlier, has been forced to retire from football due to an ongoing injury problem. Sadlier made his only appearance for the Republic of Ireland against Russia in February 2002 as a substitute. He retires at the age of 24.
After trying to make a series of comebacks, Sadlier was resigned to not playing football again, although he found it hard to believe when the possibility was mentioned to him 18 months ago.

"Whilst I did manage that, it never lasted for more than two or three games, and it just seemed that after all this time I hadn't made any progress and the symptoms were getting a lot worse.”

Millwall manager Mark McGhee reflected on the news, praising Sadlier’s ability, "I've managed at four clubs now and Richard Sadlier is the best young centre forward I've seen. He had the potential to go right to the top.”
