Views as Boro are battered by Chelsea.

A pathetic Boro were easily rolled over by Chelsea on a breezy afternoon at the riverside. A total of five goals from Kalou (2), Beletti, Lampard and Malouda destroyed and outclassed a Boro side that looked completely out of their depth. This game was a stark reminder of how far Boro have to go to achieve their objectives.

While it was evident that even with many stars out injured this was a Chelsea team full of class, and one which it would be surprising were they not to win the league, the performance from Boro was abysmal. The game was full of misplaced passes, poorly taken shots and communication errors. Indeed everytime we got a goal kick (and their were plenty) it seemed that the only thing Turnbull did was look for Mido down field much to the crowds dismay.

There was not a single performance of note out of any of the Boro players today, we just looked woeful as a team unit. Everyone just seemed completely ineffective, and our pathetic attempts to play the ball through the middle of the park were consistently quashed by Chelsea who let us see little of the ball during the game. While Boro fans were perhaps not expecting a victory today if we were honest, the least we expect in the team is a performance - and we certainly did not get this today. Southgate must hope that this poor show will not spread into the upcoming games of the season, with a tough trip at Blackburn soon to come in what has been a topsy-turvy season for the Boro.

There was one moment when that youngster on the the right-wing skinned Bridge - he looks promising but apart from that...

I think Southgate went too defensive by playing one up front and your midfield were too deep.

The result DID surprise quite a few of us though - you usually give is a tough match at the Riverside.

It was the lack of bite in midfield tha was the sickener. Maybe Digard could have made a difference but his distribution of the ball hasn't been great. I don't think O'Neil should play every game, he seems to tire.

But it was poor play by the full backs that really killed us - we really do miss Luke Young. That and the tactics - lumping the ball to Mido isn't really a game plan.

I can't remember seeing Boro play worse than this and I've seen some poor games. Hopefully we'll be up for it against Blackburn. Funny how the optimism tends to be gone by this time most seasons!

Dixon 9 - you're right about Boro dropping too deep - it's why Steve McClaren had few friends here (despite being a better coach than his reputation at the moment would suggest).
