Boro's confidence surely must have nosedived after an uninspiring home performance and subsequent loss at the hands West Brom. West Brom's scrappy 53rd minute scrappy goal came from Jonas Olsson, and it was all that was needed to seal victory at the Riverside.

While Boro pressed all afternoon, it was evident that no matter how close we came to scoring you just felt that we wouldn't. Boro's newer additions put in poor performances with Justin Hoyte struggling to win any challenges down the right, and while Afonso Alves was unlucky not to score in a powerful drive that rebounded off the bar early in the first half, he was also far too easily pushed off the ball and squandered any following chances in the game.

The crowd quickly turned on the Boro following the Olsson goal, as agitation of a possible defeat set in. The subsequent defeat marks the first time in 52 years we have lost to West Brom. The victory markedly meant a lot to the Baggies as come the final whistle the celebration from the South Stand was as if they had won a cup final, displaying how unexpected this was for them and what a blow it was for Boro. While only a few games have been played this season defeat today drags Boro further down the table and any already faint hopes of European aspirations at the start of the season have surely all but vanished to be replaced with fears of premier league survival. At this rate it is essential we consolidate our league position after a miserable run of three premier league defeats.

Great to see us mug Wigan after being at the West Brom game and seeing us robbed.

We haven't had the season yet that we dared to dream about, but these three points could be vital.

Shame about Huth's injury but I do think Riggott is under-rated. Just hope we can hold it together against Chelsea and grind something out.
