Press release :-
" Having spent the last nine years at Gloucester I had hoped to see out my career at Kingsholm. My contract negotiations had been going on for several months like a number of squad members, but last Thursday evening the management advised me that they were unable to offer me a contract, even broadly speaking, along the lines we had been discussing. This was obviously disappointing in the extreme, but as a professional sportsman with only one month left on my contract I had to seek other options as a matter of urgency.
I was therefore pleased that my agent John Partridge, managed to secure an acceptable offer from Bath within 24 hours. Having seen the players Bath have added to their existing squad I am pleased to have signed for them and I am looking forward to next season as a fresh challenge in my career and to help Bath to re-establish themselves at the top end of the Premiership.
I must thank the fans at Gloucester for all of the support they have given me over the years and the players many of whom have become good friends. Of course it is a wrench to leave Gloucester, I played over 250 games for the club and my Dad managed to play over 400 before me. As a family we have enjoyed a great association with the club over the last 33 years. However, in professional sport there is often a time for change and I am grateful that my family have continued to support me in this most difficult decision of my career ".
