This new feature will look at ex Blackpool players and how they are doing after leaving the seaside. For our first article we will look at a player who left Blackpool in 2006. He is a midfielder who goes by the name of John Doolan.

John, who is currently 34 years old, started out as a trainee at Everton but was soon released by the big club in 1994 after spending a good two years there. It didn’t take him long to find a new club as he was snapped up by Mansfield Town in September of 1994 where he went on to make 151 appearances in all competitions scoring a cracking 14 goals for, then, the third division side. After spending a long 4 seasons at Mansfield he moved on to Barnet for a fee of £60,000 in 1998, where he managed a staggering 199 appearances in all competitions scoring 13 goals in the 5 seasons he spent at the club

Barnet were relegated that year to the conference in which Doncaster Rovers brought Doolan in 2003. Doolan made 8 appearances in the remainder of the season in which Doncaster were promoted to the Football League. He soon became a regular in the team making 41 appearances and scoring 3 goals. He signed a new contract to keep him at Doncaster till 2005 where he made 41 appearances scoring 3 goals in all competitions in the 2004/2005 season.

Doolan’s contract soon ran out and was given a one-year contract by Blackpool. He made 24 appearances in all competitions before leaving on loan to Rochdale, which later became permanent. Doolan spent 2 seasons at Rochdale making 83 apps and 3 goals in which he was a extra-time sub in the playoff semi-final victory against Darlington. He left in May 2008 to become a player-coach at Conference North Side Southport.
