Trio linked to Blackpool

More Rumours!
By Rocky64 May 31 2008
Blackpool Football Clubs activity within the transfer market could start very soon with the Seasiders linked to yet another couple of players. Including a possible replacement for the soon to be departed Wesley Hoolahan, a wing back and a goal scoring midfielder.

We'll start with the man that maybe the replacement for Wes Hoolahan. Alan O'Brien currently of Hibernian is a left sided winger, he's also a Republic of Ireland international and at 23 years old there is still plenty to come.

So far he's made 32 career appearances at domestic level only starting six last term. But his inexperience and lack of first team football haven't turned away admirers and Blackpool are one of several clubs chasing the player and although non of the linked clubs have yet to make an offer, the chase is definitely on.

With Hibernian boss, Mixu Paatelainen conceding he may not be at Easter Road next season. He told the press "There is always speculation, especially at this time of year, All these stories are just rumours at the moment." Before adding,  "Time will tell whether they stay that way or not. It will all depend on the circumstances. I don't know whether Alan will still be here next season."

Next up on the rumour mill is Gareth Roberts. The Crewe Alexandra midfielder has been described as a "linchpin in Alexandra's midfield" and interest in him seems to be hotting up. With Blackpool amongst several clubs interested, including Derby County, Leicester, Norwich, Watford and others.

Roberts has already made over 100 appearances for Crewe but the wing back is out contract and unlikely to sign a new deal. Meaning other clubs are eligible to come in and sign him, but due to his age compensation would be required and this could be agreed a Tribunal. Similar to the situation when we sold Matty Blinkhorn to Morchambe.

Finally the Seasiders have also been linked to Montrose wing back Stuart Cumming. Stuart could be coming to Bloomfield Road if rumours in the Blackpool Gazette and the Scottish media are correct.

The former Blackburn Rovers trainee, can play right back or right midfield and is likely to command a few with bids already been reportedly received at £100,000. Colchester, Scunthorpe, Ipswich, MK Dons and Northampton are among the clubs who are also chasing the player.
