Oyston insists that the ticket rises were necessary to ensure that as many pennies as possible meet the budget for transfers this summer. Karl Oyston told the station "It wasn't an easy decision and it's one of the things we talked long and hard about and debated fully. We have to generate every penny we can to make sure it heads into the playing budget," the chairman said."
Karl Oyston also claimed that he didn't want to regret not putting the finances in place for the forthcoming season, come next April. He said "I didn't want to look back after this coming season and think I should have done this or I should have done that, or I should have given the manager more finance to compete."
He added "I want to make sure that we've got the money in place and that we try and bring the players in before the season starts, Once you get to the January transfer window it's maybe too late and it's important you're squad is largely assembled, or as much as is possible,"
Oyston also had a message for the fans he said "The fans should realise, as I'm sure each and every one does, that the money they pay to buy their season ticket or match tickets goes towards the playing budget. That's how it works."
Before stating, "I just want our supporters to know that every penny raised from them is going to go to the manager and it's going to enable us to try and compete and remain in this division, It is vitally important we do that this season because for the next season there's a massive increase in television revenue, which creates a big gulf between the Championship and League One."
