By Cherry Blossom October 24 2007 Lesley Vainikolo will score between ten and 20 tries for Gloucester this season, according to the club’s fans. Shedloads started a poll after the Volcano’s five-try debut against Leeds on the first day of the season, asking how many he would get after such an explosive start to his career with the club.
A fraction over 44 per cent of voters said that he would score between ten and 20, while just under 30 per cent said that he wouldn’t score again. The main reason for this is probably that the poll was invaded by fans of other clubs, rather than the fact that Big Les has only figures in half a game since the Leeds game because of a neck injury. Just over 18 per cent of the votes decided that the big man will finish the season with 21 to 25 tries, nobody felt that he would get as far as 26 to 30, but an optimistic seven per cent voted that the sky is the limit for the former Bradford Bulls winger. His neck injury has hampered his progress in rugby union after the much-publicised switch from league, but he is expected to be back soon and if he can steer clear of further injuries, the cup matches in the next four weeks should give him an opportunity to add to his tally.
