Money: We were not protected

Today Walsall manager Richard Money has said that he feel’s his team were not protected by referee David Foster during their bruising 1-0 win over Chester City.

Although local born midfielder Dean Keates scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot to give The Saddlers three points after Laurence Wilson handled in the box, it was Dave Artell’s twenty-first minute tackle on Darren Wrack which angered Money.

The City midfielder was only shown a yellow card for his crude two-footed tackle, which forced long serving midfielder Darren Wrack off the pitch.  The midfielder received a good two-to-three minute treatment, which left The Saddlers faithful worried that he could of broken his leg again, however this was not the case and Wrack tried to play on and run off his injury.

He lasted just five minutes before manager Richard Money saw the need to withdraw Darren from the action when Trinidad and Tobago international Hector Sam came on and replaced the midfielder.

When Money spoke to Teamtalk.com he said: -

"I'm not going to sit here and talk about the way other teams play, which is none of my business, but on a number of occasions recently I don't think referees have given us any protection whatever.

"I honestly thought in many ways this was arguably our best performance of the season.

"Other results help, of course, but are insignificant as long as we keep getting the right results. We felt this was a pivotal weekend and very important to win our home games in the run-in."
