Match Preview: Walsall v Lincoln City

Lincoln City
By David Penniall February 15 2007
On the back of a disappointing 3-1 defeat away against promotion hunting rivals Hartlepool United on Saturday, The Saddlers return home to Bescot tomorrow night where they will be up against another of the promotion rivals Lincoln City, in a game which is been shown live on Sky Sports 2.

Lincoln City come into the game on the back 1-0 against struggling Torquay United, however The Imps have failed to win a league game this year a away from Sincil Bank and will be hoping to change that at Bescot Stadium tomorrow.

When the two sides last meet earlier on in the season, they drew 2-2 with Lincoln taking 2-0 lead in the first half an hour, but Richard Money’s men managed to take a point back to Bescot Stadium with goals from Kris Taylor and a last minute strike from debutant Carlos Fangueiro scoring a last minute equaliser for The Saddlers.

In the pre-match build up to this game, Lincoln’s captain Paul Morgan has labelled the game as there title decider, saying that if his side fail to win this encounter, they will have to give up hope of following in Carlisle United footsteps and going up from League 2 as champions.

The Saddlers, who currently sit top of League 2, have been more interested in getting into the fans asking them to get behind the team for tomorrow’s match and manager Richard Money has hit out at critical Walsall fans and urged them to ‘get a grip on reality’ and give the team the support the deserve and need.

The Saddlers who have one of the best defensive records in the country will be desperate to see the return of central defensive duo Anthony Gerrard and Ian Roper who have been out in juried for the last couple of games with knee and ankle injuries respectively, meanwhile it seems the game has come to soon for Australian centre back Allan Picken.

January signing Geordie Lyall will be looking to make his debut after been an unused substitute against Hartlepool United Saturday, Par Cederqvist will be hoping to break into the side after been dropped for the last couple of games, but we expect Trinidad and Tobago international Hector Sam to partner Martin Butler in attack for Richard Money’s men.

Local-born midfielder Dean Keates will know all about tomorrow’s opponents having playing 24 appearances for Lincoln City before rejoining The Saddlers in the January transfer market last year and will be expecting a good reception from the supporters of the Lincolnshire side.

Meanwhile The Imps will be without former Saddler, Jamie Forrester is suspended having been sent off in Lincolns 3-1 defeat at Notts County, Spencer Weir-Daley is expected to partner Mark Stallard up front in replacement for Forrester, meanwhile Dany N'Guessan could miss out after picking up a shin injury during last weekend's win over Torquay United after coming off the bench for The Imps.

Defender Lee Beevers will be available despite been handed a one-match ban after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season against the Gulls. The 23 year-olds suspension will come into effect seven days after the offence, which means he will be forced to sit out next Tuesday's game against Hereford rather than the trip to Bescot Stadium.

If you are unable to get to the game tomorrow night, the game is live on Sky Sports 2 and there is live commentary available for Saddlers and Red Imps World subscribers and there will also be a detailed
