'Total Tranmere' writer Mike Jackson gives GFC Online his views on Tranmere Rovers ahead of the big game on Saturday. Gillingham have picked up just six points on their travels so far this season, with three of those six points coming from victory at Doncaster Rovers earlier on this season.
1. Who are you, what’s your age and how long have you been supporting your club?

I am Mike Jackson (aka Deadly Submarine) and I have been supporting Rovers since the age of 10 in 1990 so you can work my age out for yourselves!

2. What’s your best moment as a football fan of your club?

The 2000 League Cup Final at Wembley against Leicester City although we lost 2-1 in the end. Also confirming our League One status away at MK Dons last season was pretty special!

3. And the worst?

I wasn’t a regular at Prenton Park in our relegation season due to being at University so although that was devastating, I’d have to say the play-off defeat to Hartlepool in 2005 was my worst moment.

4. Which player has been your all time favourite for your club?

For me no-one beats Johnny Morrissey who was a great Winger back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Other favourites include Clint Hill and of course the legend that is John Aldridge!

5. And who is your current favourite?

Ian Goodison – one of the best centre-backs in League One this season and always a Man of the Match contender for us. Had a poor season out of position at left-back last season but at centre-back there aren’t many better at this level!

6. What’s your favourite away ground in League one?
I wouldn’t say any Ground stands out in League One but for the Stadium itself I’d say Huddersfield’s Galpharm Stadium is one of the best. In terms of a day out though I found Brighton to be a very friendly place to visit even though the Stadium is one of the worst in the League after Blackpool!

7. What has your form of late been like?

Unbeaten in six in the League so pretty good really although recent Cup exits to League Two sides in both the FA and Johnstones Paint Cups have tarnished our recent form a little.

8. Who’s the “one to watch”?

As well as the earlier mentioned Ian Goodison our one to watch would be striker Chris Greenacre. He almost always gives 100% effort and chips in with his fair share of goals (nine this season so far).

9. Do you have any youngsters to look out for?

Steve Davies has been brought up as a striker but has recently been getting a first team place on the wing for us. Other as yet inexperienced youngsters include midfielder Mike Jones and Striker Craig Curran who been fairly prolific in the Reserves this season.

10. What’s your biggest threat, as in corners, set pieces etc.?

Chris Shuker scored a great free-kick against Brentford two weeks ago and scored a similar one away at Bury so he would be our biggest threat on free-kicks. As for corners we’re pretty poor on the whole as Shuker and Ellison seem incapable of beating the first man with their corner kicks.

11. At the start of the season, what was your predicted finish for the season?

After last years near-miss with relegation and with Ronnie Moore coming in and re-building, I personally would have settled for mid-table this season.

12. Where do you see yourselves finishing now?

The play-offs looks realistic if we carry on like this but automatic promotion may just be beyond us this season I feel.

13. Do you think either of Gillingham or Tranmere will get relegated or promoted?

Thankfully I can’t see Rovers getting relegated and Gills seem consistent enough at home to finish in mid-table so in answer to the question NO, neither will go down!

14. Are you a little surprised by Gillingham’s performance so far this season?

Thought Gills were a decent side last season at home and away against us but losing Byfield may have made some difference to them. I can’t see why a play-off spot can’t be achieved though if as Jack says they can sort out their away form.

15. Finally, your prediction for today’s game?

I’m going to go for a win to Tranmere just as Jack has but I’m only going for a 1 goal victory so 2-1 to Rovers I reckon!
