Mid Valley stands out as a rattling good bet in the Spring To It At Pontin's Handicap at Southwell on Tuesday. The John Jenkins-trained five-year-old has certainly not inherited the same level of ability as his superstar father Zilzal, but punters won't care a jot if he can continue to get the job done at his own level.

Having begun to look exposed, Mid Valley came up trumps over course and distance just over a fortnight ago, when he was not hard-pushed to dismantle a similar field.

Although a three-length success from a perch of just 46 fails to excite at first glance, runner-up Speagle has since gone on to win comfortably at Wolverhampton and there was a yawning break of eight lengths back to the third-placed horse.

All this adds up to suggest Mid Valley posted a smart effort for the grade and a similar one here should see him land the double.

Garlogs is another all-weather performer who merits support in the Bet Champions League - Betdaq Handicap.

Reg Hollinshead's charge has always been a capable sort but he appears to have suddenly found a spring in his step, winning two of his last three races.

Garlogs was particularly impressive over course and distance last time, slamming Limonia by a convincing margin after blasting out of the stalls and never seeing another rival.

Russell Kennemore has struck up a good partnership with the gelding and his 3lb claim is worth its weight in gold.

So although there are two or three other Southwell specialists in the line-up, it is hard to find fault with the selection's claims and another tour de force looks on the cards.

Princess Flame is fancied to warm the hands and vocal chords of Exeter punters when she chases another success in the EBF Mares Only "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle.

Trained by Brendan Powell, this upwardly-mobile six-year-old got off the mark over timber with a thumping 12-length win back in January.

Princess Flame had been crying out for a stiffer test of stamina than that provided over trips around two miles, so it came as no surprise to see her appreciate two and a half miles.

Exeter's stiff track means the drop to two miles and three furlongs is of no concern and it is hard to envisage an outcome that doesn't see her fighting out the finish.

Silver Sedge has been a grand servant to connections in recent seasons and fully deserves another decent prize.

That should be coming his way at Newcastle, where the Weatherbys Finance Handicap Chase looks made to measure.

The nine-year-old loves Gosforth Park, striking three times at the course over the years, and he arguably ran a career-best when second to the progressive Rayshan here just 10 days ago.

Silver Sedge only finds himself 1lb higher in the weights on this occasion, which seems surprisingly lenient, and he can make the most of what seems a gilt-edged opportunity.

Noble Alan looked a well above average bumper performer over the winter and seems sure to make a similar impression over obstacles.

Making his hurdling debut at the track last month, Nicky Richards' charge finished less than two lengths behind the subsequently-disqualified Ignotus.

That one has since struck at Grade Two level to add significant weight to the form, which suggests Noble Alan will be a mighty hard horse to stop in the Saltwell Signs "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle.
